Zoologist's Primer: Birds - Kickstarter Wrap-Up

So our Kickstarter campaign for Zoologist's Primer: Birds is over!

Alright, it has been over since 26th May 2026, and it's 30th July that I'm writing this, but that's kind of the point. (Oh, how the crowdfunding campaigns burn me out). We are way overdue for a wrap-up of this fantastic campaign and for some explanation on why did we go mostly silent afterwards. No tragedies, I promise!

Together with our publisher, Hunters Entertainment, we have successfully funded the next book in The Natural World Library! Yay! Thanks to almost 4000 bird enthusiasts, we've raised enough to allow us to continue working on these extremely time-consuming projects and indulge our shared curiosity in the natural world.

We are so grateful to our pre-existing community (many of you have been with us since the beginning back in the pandemic lockdown!) and to our new bird-loving friends. You are all fantastic and highly appreciated. Since then, we've been busy. Well, Jakub has been busy working on our Aurorae project, and I've been mostly recovering from a month of being active in a marketing mode on social media. Really not my thing! The marketing mode always severely burns me out for a month or two, and I become a recluse in the online world. It's our fourth campaign, and it's been like that every time. Still, knowing well that this is just temporary, I don't really fret over it, instead channeling my restless AuDHD (guess who got diagnosed!) energy into what I consider "actual work."

Here's the update on the Zoologist's Primer: Birds you may have been waiting for!

The majority of the art is now complete, we're more than halfway through all the bird entries, and the first 40 (albatross to hummingbird) are currently being combed through by our science editor, Lauren Cipollo. That's right, it's done enough to be already fact-checked by a person with real zoology knowledge. According to our internal schedule, all the science-adjacent text should be passed on to Lauren by the end of August, and we're fully intending to keep this timeline.

I'll be, likely, mostly off social media until then, as I have to tap into the energy of incoming deadline to keep my mind focused on writing instead of just reading cool info about egg-based curse removal in Polish folk magic. (No gatekeeping here: there's a freshly published book Polish Folk Magic by Joanna Tarnawska which is likely the best text on the topic available in English. Highly recommended.)
