Have you ever wished to have a digital library of the Primer books? If so, your dreams came true! (You haven't? Dream bigger—you deserve nice things in your life!)

The Natural World Library App: your digital hub of our Primer books

With The Natural World Library App, you can now browse Herbalist's Primer, Geologist's Primer, and the brand-new Mycologist's Primer without flipping 1080 pages by hand! And we promise that all future books in the series (like the upcoming Zoologist's Primer: Birds) will join the app as soon as they're ready. The entire Natural World Library will be available from your computer/phone via this swanky-looking web app!

This app was created thanks to the 6,822 supporters of the Mycologist's Primer Kickstarter campaign, as a collaboration between us, our publisher Hunters Entertainment, and the extremely talented team from PixelTable whom you might already know from their digital version of Alice is Missing.

At the moment, you can gain access to the first three books in the app: guides to magical plants, fungi, and minerals. Each book is available in full, but with tons of user-friendly upgrades such as extensive search function, custom collections, detailed contents sidebars, high-resolution illustrations, and more.

The main text of the books is presented in a simple way, as a continuous text allowing you to read with minimal distractions. The illustrations are purposefully smaller, so you can focus on what matters: our words of wisdom—or, at least, whimsy.

Thanks to the app being a web app, you can adjust the font size with your general-use zoom function—no need to learn any special interface.

All books come with interactive bookmarks to quickly navigate the book to whichever part is needed.

We try to strike balance between ease of use and a detailed view; hence, there are more detailed bookmarks in chapters you're likely to be referencing in small chunks—and less detailed in chapters that are meant to be read in full.

The Entries ✨

The one part of the books you won't find inside are the entries: the 100 plants/fungi/minerals. And that's because we made them waaaay cooler! With a single button, you can browse all entries, search for your favorites and access all data. The illustrations are captioned the same way as in the printed books, but you can now enlarge them to see all the drawn details, squiggly lines, and splatters of digital brushes.

But that's not all! There's a little Save button on each of the entry pages, allowing you to save them to custom collections for future reference!

Little features to make your experience better

If you know me, you also know that I like a good index. But what's better than a printed index is a comprehensible, powerful search function. The one we have in the Natural World Library app not only allows you to search any terms, it also has a bunch of randomized "curiosity buttons," so you can explore the Library through a new lens every time. It's like a Wikipedia treasure hunt.

The app also keeps track of your recent searches, so you can easily return to where you left off. This is, of course, optional. If you want no record of your thorough investigation of poisonous plants and fungi, you can turn it off in the settings.

The future upgrades

But wait, we're not done! We are also planning on bringing into the Natural World Library app the contents of our Alchemist's Toolkit: a system-neutral ruleset for potion-making, magical reagents, and alchemical processes. For now, you can get a PDF copy of the toolkit on DriveThruRPG. We'll keep adding content both to that PDF and to the web app version!
